  • Who can book in to see a dietitian? Do I need a GP referral?
    Anyone with a desire to improve their dietary habits can book an appointment. This can be to improve their overall health or linked to a medical condition. You may find your doctor refers you to a dietitian; however, you do not need a GP referral. Appointments can be booked through the website www.thehealthtitian.co.za or contact kirstin@thehealthtitian.co.za via email.
  • How long are the consultations?
    The initial consultation is usually 90 minutes, followed by 15-30 minute follow up appointments.
  • What can I expect to happen during the consultation?
    Before the consultation, your dietitian will ask you to complete a form with your details, including your medical history. The consultation will include body measurements based on your age and any limitations. Typical measurements include weight, height and waist circumference. At the practice, the InBody 270 scale is used to assess body composition. Your dietitian will then sit with you to discuss your current dietary intake, goals, activity levels and lifestyle. From this information, you will receive nutrition education and a plan of action when you leave the session.
  • Do I need to do anything specific to prepare for my InBody 270 assessment?
    To ensure consistent and effective tracking of your body composition, it is essential to ensure the following: Maintain your regular fluid intake the day before the assessment Socks or stockings will need to be removed to stand barefoot on the scale All heavy objects such as wallets, watches and jewellery should be removed before the assessment Refrain from eating or drinking for 3 hours before the assessment
  • Is there an age or weight limit for using the InBody 270?
    Yes, the testing range is between 3-99 years of age and 10-250kg.
  • What is your fee structure?
    Kirstin is contracted with most medical aids and charges medical aid rates. She claims on your behalf however if you do not have sufficient medical aid savings payment can we done via snap scan or eft.
  • Where are Geneway samples collected?
    The sample is collected in your dietitian's office via a mouth swab. Remember not to eat or drink anything 30min – 2 hours prior to taking the sample.
  • Are Geneway results confidential?
    Completely. GENEWAYâ„¢ ensures complete discretion and client confidentiality. Results will only be released to the persons specified (eg you and your health care professional). All client files are password protected.
  • Is there a minimum age for genetic testing?
    No, there is no minimum age. Collection of DNA samples is safe for all ages and painless.
